Barrydale in Bloom Next Weekend

Barrydale in Bloom Next Weekend

Happy spring! Next weekend (18 to 20 October), Barrydale will host its annual garden festival and fundraiser, Barrydale in Bloom. It’s sure to be jampacked with talks on gardens and the environment, workshops, music, and even a market!

After this year’s rain and snow-filled winter, Barrydale is set to bloom beautifully. Enjoy hikes, tours, and marvelling at the gorgeous Klein Karoo flowers with the whole family. The weekend is set to be stuffed with gardening fun to benefit Barrydale’s hospice, this year’s chosen charity.

Can’t make it the weekend? Not to worry, the festival has extended its program to start from the Monday preceding the weekend (the 14th of October). There are cooking demonstrations, art workshops, and hikes.

We’re excited to see Barrydale’s biodiversity, animals, and flora celebrated! Read on to discover what’s on offer.

What’s on at the Barrydale in Bloom Weekend

You’ll be able to cycle the entire weekend with the Karoo Art Hotel’s Barrydale Cycle Loop. Their website proclaims it a “chilled ride” through a 40 km or 100 km loop past Woema’s dairy farm in Bersig, Moderra farm, Weltevrede, Joseph Barry Cellar, Weltevrede farm, Joubert-Tradauw Vinyards and Cellar, and other farms. Along the way, you can stop for coffee, food, and wine tastings.

Friday

Friday kicks off with a hike on the Sandrivier farm. Directly after that, the Karoo Art Hotel has a safety talk on snakes. If that’s not your cup of tea, try a cup of wine at the Joubert-Tradauw Vineyards. Later in the afternoon, there’s a yoga workshop with enthusiast Natalie Uren.

There’s also a Rieldans workshop, a fairy throne judging, and a gin tasting with music. Round off the day with a Forest and Feast dinner at the coveted Karoolkie Cellar, where local artist Michelle Berry’s painting, The Garden will be auctioned.
